How to paint: Warriors of Rohan

With the upcoming release of The Battle of Pellenor Fields – a new starter box for MESBG I never thought I’d see – I wanted to come up with a quick way to paint the Rohan contingent. So here it is – not going to win any painting awards, but with minimal layers and limited use of washes you should be able to get a batch of them painted up quite quickly. Combine with...

Gildor Inglorion

This post is a bit of a cheating one – there’s no mention of Gildor in the Tale of Years, or really in the movies – more on that shortly. The inspiration to paint this miniature comes from the scenarios found in the Fellowship journey book, and from reading a little more of The Fellowship of the Ring. When Frodo, Sam and Pippin leave Hobbiton, pursued by riders in black, they...

Elrond, Master of Rivendell

Not much is said about where Bilbo is headed when he leaves the Shire – Bilbo shares with Gandalf that he needs a holiday – probably a permanent one – and explains his feelings due to his extended lifespan. Bilbo doesn’t seem to attribute this to his ownership of the ring at this point. Gandalf however suspects, and agrees with Bilbo that his plan to leave the Ring is...

Heroes of Helms Deep

This was one of the first boxes I picked up when I got back in to the hobby a few years ago.
After picking up the Helms Deep walls set, I thought it was about time I painted it up.
It’s taken me about 2 months between other minis (and Christmas etc!). Looking at the minis side by side now it’s interesting how my technique has changed (mostly improved) in just a couple of months.

Unboxing: The Nazgul of Dol Guldur 1 and 2

I picked up a set of each at the Warhammer World New Years Open Day. Loved the look of these since Khamul was teased on the Warhammer Community site – seeing both the studio painted set and Jay’s with the Necromancer really showed off how good they are. Think I’ll be painting these up next! Here’s some snaps of them out of the box. The Nazgul of Dol Guldur 1 The Nazgul of...

Hobby Goals 2018

Happy New Year! Time to set some hobby goals – here’s what I’d like to achieve in 2018: Paint a complete Thorin’s Company Empty the WiP cabinet: Currently has 3 Bloodbowl goblins, Treebeard, Helms Deep Aragorn, a Dunedain archer, Frodo and Sam in Orc armour and a Gothmog I found on eBay. I want to at least make some progress on Smaug. Next job is to fill gaps. I painted...

Hobbit & Lord of the Rings Warhammer World Exclusives

UPDATE: These exclusives have now been retired to make way for new exclusives for 2019. ANOTHER UPDATE: I was at WHW on November 1st. There was still a few copies of Ambush at Amon Hen and Final Fate of the Witch-king on the shelves. There’s currently several products that are only available at Warhammer World or events attended by the Middle Earth Team. What they are and what they cost...

Eowyn

In my effort to empty my work in progress cabinet, I’ve finished Eowyn.

Another quickly finished model, not as detailed as I would like but looks good in the cabinet. Think there was a bit of flash left on the right eye that I never noticed when I was painting her previously. Oh well!

Speed Painting

Ages ago I painted the cloak of a high elf swordsman to practice a bit of blending. It’s been floating around my desk ever since. Last night I finally decided to complete it – set myself a target of 30 minutes. Took more like an hour to paint and base it. Not up to my usual standard, but I’m happy with the finished article. Especially for the time that went in. It’s...

Lake-town Guard and Lake-town Militia

Lake-town Guard and Lake-town Militia are now available in 12 packs for £40 from GW on pre-order. Previously only available in blisters of three for £15, this is a great move from the Middle Earth team. They’ve basically brought 2 sets of minis in line with the price Iron Hills dwarves, saved some SKUs (to offer more OOP products hopefully!) and made some of the more expensive minis in the...
